Our History
We have a long history of delivering accounting expertise to the businesses of Ashburton, beginning in 1918 under the name of Mr Fred Hickman as a sole practitioner. Ted Brophy bought the practice in 1949 and was joined by Mr Gordon Knight one year later establishing the partnership and trading name Brophy Knight. From these origins at 69-77 Tancred Street (the premises of the former Loan & Building Society) the Brophy-Knight reputation for excellence saw our business flourish and grow. We have occupied a purpose-built office space (subsequently occupied by Charles Doig & Urquhart) and premises in the Federated Farmers Building on West Street, before settling into our current location above the ANZ Bank on Tancred Street in 1972. In December 1998, the partnership converted to a company – Brophy Knight Limited – and the current Directors are Brendon Adam, Greg Wall, and Marcus Schoonderbeek.
